     If you are off work for an extended period of time, you may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits or, even if you have never worked,  Supplemental Security Insurance benefits.   These benefits amount to monthly payments for as long as you are unable to work or meet the other qualifications of the Social Security Act. We also represent children in social security claims.  

     Typically, the claimant must establish that he or she is totally disabled as the result of a disease or an injury or some combination thereof (including congenital defects) and that the disability has lasted or can be expected to last twelve (12) consecutive calendar months and/or result in death. 

     One of the mistakes most often made by claimants is failure to recognize the detailed medical information required by the Social Security Administration.   One of the jobs of  the attorney is to prepare the medical information and make sure it gets to the Social Security Administration timely and in a form which they can use to determine disability.  The attorney must also make sure the claimant meets all filing deadlines as they go up the procedural ladder.   Finally, the attorney must prepare the claimant for a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge and fully represent the claimant at that hearing.
